Shpjegimi

Në shkrimin akademik shmangen pohimet absolute. Përdoren folje modale (may, might, could), folje raportuese (suggest, indicate, appear) dhe ndajfolje (possibly, arguably, relatively).

Krahaso: 'Smoking causes cancer' me 'Smoking may contribute to the development of cancer'. E dyta është më e kujdesshme dhe akademikisht më e pranueshme.

Përdoren gjithashtu struktura jopersonale: It could be argued that..., The evidence suggests that..., There appears to be...
